“She Persisted” by Betty Busby

“She Persisted” by Betty Busby

This is one in a series of posts featuring an artist whose work is included in the Threads of Resistance exhibition.

Artist’s Statement:

Women have been told for millennia to sit down and shut up. The struggle for rights in the Western world, initiated by the suffragettes demanding the right to vote, and continued by various organizations since then, has recently been dealt a severe blow by reactionary forces in the U.S. In many other areas of the world, conditions for women remain at a medieval level. This work is meant as encouragement to stand up and be counted, not only for your own rights, but for those of others and future generations.
